Many cases are settled for a lump sum payment. Such settlements must be approved by a workers’ compensation magistrate to make sure that the employee understands his or her rights and that the proper rules are being followed regarding charges for costs and attorney’s fees. There is no set formula to determine the amount that an employee receives in such a settlement as there are multitudes of factors involved in these determinations.
